This was a great entry, one that I thought would do much better. I'm a fan of big brooding clouds, so I think that would make this stonger, but it's very strong as it is. A great job. |

A very nice composition with a marshmellow like sky all very subdued however, I would have favored the snow a bit more as it is generally brighter then the wood. A strong and attractive study. Bumping up. |

Good subject. I would have liked to see more contrast in the clouds. Great contrast and detail in the stump! |

Nice compostion...I don't care for the sky (for some reason)...would have scored it higher if it weren't for that. |

Gawd I love the texture, detail and tonal range of this picture, I only wish you would have done a slightly different angle, I think if you moved the camera slightly to the right, and lowered it just a bit, you would have a 10 from me. This angle doesn't quite give the dramatic feeling of an AA. GL |

nice but a bit over sharpened (the halo around the tree roots are distracting) |

Nice clarity and interesting subject. Tones are nice, too. It may be interesting to add some contrast to those clouds overhead. Nice work. 8 |

Shot on another day with more interesting clouds I this would have something. The contrast of the sharp prickly wood with a backdrop of fluffy clouds would be nice.
Here the composure of the sky is distracting to me, with the band of dark and band of light -- the photo feels a bit top heavy with those upper dark clouds I guess. I know that's not your fault, since you don't control the weather. But it might be a nice photo to reshoot another day.
I think the clarity and tonal range on the dead wood itself is great. Nice job. |

I was torn between this and "a photograph is made, not taken." in the end I rated them the same. Personally I am not sure if the dark gray sky helps the image or not, I suspect it would have had more impact without. |

High drama with the drift wood but the cloud seems overdone or smudged somehow |

Beautiful composition marred by the4 not-level horizon and an overall sense of flatness in the foreground. I suspect, though, that this was a really tough one to print. Stron entry. |
