Silent Strider
By Stephan
Critique by Silver Fox
I like the overall lighting in the hallways, some great sharpness on the brown bricks, and I like the shadows on the handrails. It would seem to have been taken in a Monastery as the person would most likely seem to be dressed like a Monk. I like the way you have him blurred, a mystery person in a rush. . .
The color of the brick is really nice, the various browns and the darkened mortar lines, the painted walls; but theres something wrong with the whole photograph, it looks crooked or something, I cant put my finger on it. And did you lighten everything when you were editing it? It looks kind of off on the painted walls?
Okay. Im reading your comments now. It was tilted originally. I dont think the person is distracting at all, but adds to the interest of the photo. It would be boring without him.
Not a bad finish, Stephan 56/203. The main question is: Did you have fun? I enjoyed looking at your work. So for now, keep shooting and I hope to see more of your work in the coming weeks and months ahead.
Regards,
Ed

Thank you for your comments. Yes, the "painted" look and the dark/eerie theme was what I was aiming for. Like a poster for a horror movie. I'm glad that many of you liked that. I increased the contrast quite a bit and sharpened it in post processing.
ChrisW123: Originally it was titled to the left and I rotated it. I had a version where the lines on top of the frame were perfectly straight, but somehow it appeared to me that the image was still "toppling" to the left. I think it's because of the balance of the image and the way the stairs go up. So I rotated it one degree more to the right and it looked much better to me.
StevePax and Rgold: The person was intended. I can't see why it would be distracting? From what? I mean the person really is the point of interest.
KAOS: Thanks :)

Great what you made of this pic (I know the situation and can guess how it looked right out of the camera)...
Gratulation!

a little eerie. I really like it though. it has a jack the ripper sort of quality to it...I hope that's what you were going for. |

I think this would have great without the person in it. It distracts from an interesting subject. |

That's really cool.. but again... the picture is tilted to the right. With such a cool shot didn't you notice this while you were editing it? Still give you a 7 however because it's great. |

Waaa! Such a nice image, but such a pity the quality had to suffer (from sharpening?). Still: 7 |

I'd be intrigues to know how you've got this quality into this shot - it almost looks painted! great work - for me, perhaps a little more contrast overall would have aded mystery even more. Is it a very dark shot that's been lightened hugely? |
