Ode To Billie Joe
(Bobbie Gentry)
And then she said "I got some news this mornin' from Choctaw Ridge"
"Today Billy Joe MacAllister jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge"

This is Bunker Hill Covered Bridge in Claremont NC. This is my son Jordan posing. I thought about doing this when I heard the Ode to Billy Joe song at a friends house. I'm very happy with the way this turned out, I had it pictured in my head, took the shot, edited it, and it was exactly how I had it pictured. I also got some good shots of my boys today, so even if this bombs it was still a good day :)

Info on Bunker Hill Covered Bridge:

The Bunker Hill Covered Bridge (1894) is last remaining covered bridge in North Carolina and the only example of the Haupt Truss in wood. Catawba County commissioners in 1894 called on local landowners to build and maintain a bridge across Lyles Creek. In response, landowners hired the services of Andy L. Ramsour. The name Bunker Hill comes from local Bunker Hill Farm operated by the descendants of the Shufords and Lowrances, local families since the early 1800s. The bridge is made of oak with trunnels (wooden pins) instead of nails and spans 85 feet across Lyles Creek. The roof was originally covered with wooden shingles. It was replaced with tin, in 1921. A major restoration in 1994-95 has stabilized the structure.

This is wonderful. I just stumbled across it. The single figure's silhouette at the end of the bridge opening is terrific. The filter you used is just the right one to evoke the nostalgic mood. Great title too.

I like the character of this photo, you didn't just take a picture of a kid of a bridge, you added a little something more.

The quietness of this picture is very appealing. Your bringing of just enough light into the interior illuminates just the right amount of detail.

Great atmosphere, I love the way the visible portion of the floor inside the bridge fades into blackness.

This picture really tells a story. The lines, the light, and the guy standing there contemplating whatever he's comtemplating make for a fantastic image (not to mention your technical ability!)

How'd he jump off this then? Is there a window?
It's a terrific image: just enough interior detail to work, not enough to blow out the background. Nice figure (BJ?), plus good camera and processing work. 8.

Good photo. Nice point of view of a bridge as well. It seems you have a well trained eye. I would have cropped a bit more, keeping the fading inside-way of the bridge. That's an opinion.
Good work :)

shot would've been great if the end of the bridge wasn't right in the middle. Great concept.

This is lovely - the exposure is perfect, and this has a wonderful, sentimental feel about it. The softness that I assume is processing does work for this particular picture very well, and the sepia tones are right on. Lovely work!

This image conjures lots of questions.
Wooden foreground leads the eye nicely to the silhouette.
I like the framing and colourisation.

Beautiful sepia, title works, and image is effective in it's simplicity.

Absolutely beautiful, metaphorical image that uses and actual covered bridge to bring in at least twoother levels of bridge imagery. Wonderful B/W cinversion, fine use of neatimage for the slightly misty effect (or however you got it, feel free to message me and let me know, I'm curious). A 10 from me and I wish it well.
