Just a sloppy, fast, unprepared, crappy selfportrait. More to show my face (so that you can get an idea who I am) instead of entering a HQ ribbon winning super potrait. I don't even know how to to that anyway. Even one year ago I wouldn't even have put up my face on the net.
Despite the simple setup and emptyness it does tell something about me. I wear glasses -duh-, don't shave often, never comb my hair (a bit of water, five fingers and don't look for another 24 hours) and don't look if my clothing is right (collar). I am as sloppy as the photograph. But I am extremely precise and neat with my equipment. Strange that.
I don't do potraits often and certainly no studio work. I wanted to do something in the field, outside in nature, but it rained the whole weekend so I did this quick one in the kitchen. Partly to test the SB600 with the commander mode.

The setup isn't right, but I had to attend a birthday party so I had no chance (or didn't want ) to redo anything.
SB600 flash in slave mode with the D70 onboard flash as commander. The SB600 was set to my left (for you), 40cm from the ground with the head tilted to bounce on the ceiling. I should have fetched a higher thing and bounce on the wall besides me.

The end result was pretty underexposed, like three stops underexposed.

Work:
- +2 stop exposure compensation in NC4.2
- D-Lighting HQ 60,1,60 (NC4.2) (1/2 a stop)
- Cropped
- White curve sample on the left of the background (another +1/2 stop)
Essentially these three steps gained me 3 to 4 stops, so I pushed my ISO200 shot to ISO 1600-3200! No noise reduction applied.
- Made the rightside background even
- gaussian blur of 2px on the rightside background
- FM B&W pro standard B&W
- USM 10% on 50px
- Resample
- USM lightness channel 150 0.3 0
- Save for the web

nice and sharp, but the lighting is not controllled; too stong in places, and a big shadow cast in background. The angle ofvthe capture and the angle of the lighting are not very flattering to the subject. i like your profile pic much better!
