The placement of this shot in the results is ludicrous. I stand by my 7. It's a wonderful shot with an interesting and well-told story. |

A wonderfully reflective 'environmental' portrait.. There's enough in the background to tell us a story, but it's not cluttered. Great use of natrural light as well.. The only distraction is the slight motion blur your head.. Well done. 8 |

I am almost always ruthless about distractions in a photo. But here the photo is about a person and his relationship to music. I find the soft earthtones of the shot to be remarkably soothing and they harmonize nicely. I also like the rhythms established by the book bindings and the staves. It is always unexpected to have a subject's face totally in the shadow, and it is always a big risk. Here it is carried off with aplomb. Usually I find washed out and black areas wasted, but here the areas echo each other in shape, and the black and white give high and low notes to the composition. In a field of very predictable photos, this one is unexpected: it's a gem. |

A very good character study with good tranquil feel. The composition was well thought out and its only minor set back is that the focus point should have rested on the studious head. The wall, the full score and finger placement is all great. Bumping up on very good effort. |

Might be better if the focus was on your face with the book slightly blurred, rather than the other way around. It's a nicely composed shot, though, and a good idea. |

Good composition but I would rather have you in focus (not the books). |

A nice change. Always a pleasure when one gets back to Bach. |
