Please don't go calling the PETA, the cat acually rather enjoyed the session. Jamison is a Manx, born without a tail to begin with. I would never lay an unkind finger on him. He's spoiled to pieces with love, toys, and treats galore.
The supplies for this photograph cost me absoloutly nothing--it was stuff that was laying around the house. I rolled my car into the garage, laid paper towel neatly around (I have no disposable flooring items around), and set up a white blanket perpendicularly as the backdrop. I put the faux tail, cut from a black stuffed kitty, under the tire. Next, I mixed up a concoction of 'blood' from catsup as a base (great staying power, didn't run from where I painted it), and food coloring and india ink to modify the color a bit. I painted it around the tail as you see it in the picture, painting spots and flecking little bits elsewhere for a 'sprayed' effect. I placed kitty treats behind the tail (you can see them if you look), and led Jamison to them. Then I took pictures until he stared getting bored of the food and more interested in sniffing around the car. This picture was taken with a flash. I had a lamp beside me for extra lighting (the garage is kinda dark). Photo shoot over, I cleaned everything up and brought Jamison inside.
In Photoshop, I pulled up what I deemed the best of the bunch and cropped it a bit, and sized it to the specifications for submissions. Then I submitted it.

I was actually prepared to believe this shot, though it did strike me as strange that the cat looked more like it was eating than crying :P

Geez, some people have no sense of humor. I think that montereykiddo's parallel between this shot and pornography is a little bit of a stretch. Sure some people will object to it for various reasons, but the ramifications of a porn shot do not also carry over into shots like this. The cat suffered no harm and won't have to worry about whether or not it's pregnant. What do you mean it's not "right in this challenge?" I'm sorry if I sound too aggressive, but seriously, learn to get thicker skin people.

creative. great positioning of the cat, which csn be a difficult thing to do with animals. sometimes they're hard to get to cooperate.

This is just sick. Even with the knowledge that this surely must be staged, it's too morbid even for DPC, in my opinion. 4

Not, just not....... much I can say.

The strangest thing about this shot is that you've put white sheets & paper all over which kinda ruins the impression of accidentally running over the cat's tail that you're trying to create.

Well, it's obvious you put some work into this photo, and it's funny, but...
...I don't think it's a very good photograph overall. The background cloths are wrinkled and the cat's not bleeding. I would have cropped the back of the cat off so that we couldn't see that the tail was already gone. Although that wouldn't be funny because then we wouldn't no that it didn't have a tail...hmmm...I'm really not sure how to make this phot work, but it was worth a shot, eh?

Too morbid for me

No words....This is not tastefull in the least. I expect challenges to be taken with not only a creative approach (as you did) but a tasteful one as well.

Here is what this is equivalent to.....If the challenge was "Nudes" and you entered a porn set shot of some girl getting doubled teamed by two guys. Its just not right in this challenge. I realize you used a white background and probably put some time into it, but you have to realize whats in good taste and whats not.
02/09/2005 07:16:18 AM
That's just wrong...
02/09/2005 06:32:26 AM
Um... YUCK! I guess that's all I can think of to say about that!
02/09/2005 04:03:21 AM
wow, I have got to tell you this is one of the most repulsing things i have ever seen on DPchallenge, however the challenge is pain, and your picture is unique.
02/09/2005 02:06:27 AM

i hope this is fakeeeeeeeeeeeee lol

I really liked the idea and it worked out well that the cat didnt have a tail to begin with, but the blood splatter could of looked a little more realistic but its still nice cause you get the idea its not real.
