I didn' vote on this challenge but I think this is fine work. I am sorry that some people gave this below a four, and failed to justify their odd choice by a comment or two. This should have been more highly placed IMHO

The composition is tight, the lighting is moody, the exposure is right-on. There's a nice tension between the dead, the live, and the ghosts (live persons reflected in the casket.) I like this photo very much, but to my sensibility, only two characters seem to display touching, photogenic human emotion: the woman in the striped shirt and the little girl just to the right of her in the photo. Impossible to catch without a longer lens, I suppose.

Many of the photos submitted, in my opinion, are contrived. This one expresses real pain.

very sad. It takes guts to grab a snapshot at a funeral (for god's sake) and have it look like art. My condolences.

A very sad and touching picture. The pain is obvious.

Very painful photo. The composition is really good. It looks like there may be a little too much contrast from the bright background, which makes the shadows on a lot of the faces too dark. But what can you do with a photo like this. Nice picture anyway.

Gritty image of real pain. Well done. B&W works well. One of the best in the challenge.

if this is a real scene and you went to the trouble to shoot someone's grief from up close, I think a closeup from the woman on the left with the handkerchief would have sufficed.

The eeriest thing about this photo is the little girl looking right at you. Too bad the woman in the middle isn't wearing a white shirt too. I give it a 7.

OK where do i start ......i really need to comment on your picture i didn't want to be to harsh on you but i need to tell you what i feel about your picture .. please do not get offended. .. ... who in their right state of mind would have the time and the heart to take this picture during a Wake / Funeral. how could you have the guts to take a picture of a dead person (R.I.P) with all loves ones around mourning .. Sorry but this Picture is horrible. that just my opinion. If you knew this person sorry for the loss of your loved one. maybe in your culture you can take pictures at a wake and it's OK with every one but for me I don't like to remember my loved ones on the worse day ever ....
