 Carnival (Carnevale in Italian) in Zwaag, Noord-Holland. For the cities above the great Dutch Rivers (Rijn, Maas, Waal) Zwaag is one of the biggest and well-known Carnival 'cities'. But the Dutch Carnival is at its best in the South, below the rivers.

Personally I don't really like our Dutch carnival. And to make things worse I waited two hours before it began and had seen enough after three of the fifty carnival-carts. So I went home, but snapped this guy on top of one. It was nr. 4 of only four photos taken. I went bird hunting (with my camera) after that. Well, he's got this pink thingie on his head and pink was what I was after. Just a bit unfortunate that the reds clipped, but I didn't want to spend too much time correcting that.
A up-close coward (bige tele = coward) candid portrait for a change, should work a lot more on portraits and more up close and personal.

Nikon Capture: Straight conversion, only Digital DEE at its standards settings to brighten the whole scene.
Photoshop 6:
- FM chroma noise reduction
- cropped 1:1
- resampled to 640x640
- Unsharp Mask 200% 0.3px 0 treshold
- Save for the web

I did not boost the saturation, it is all standard camera settings and lens influence.

To my understanding the Dutch go as crazy, but in a cheaper kind of way. :)

Just fabulous. Good use of DOF here. From a challenge perspectiveI would have scored this higher if the top of the pink "hat" hadn't been cut off, and there was less of the red shirt in the frame. Overall, this is a very humorous shot that I'm sure you are pleased with.
