I knew when I saw PINK that I wanted to do an orchid. I went to a Greenhouse and was given permission to take photos, I started to buy one of their orchids for $45 but decided to wait and maybe come back the next day after I had seen the photos I had taken that day. I hated them all. Then today while shopping at Sam's I found this orchid for $18. I had fun setting up the shot, ironing the backdrop, setting up the lighting, etc.. I learned a few things with this challenge and am very pleased with the final outcome.
Rotated, cropped, levels, brightness & contrast, cloning of some white spots on the backdrop, took a touch of the bottom of the stem off, hue & saturation, sharpened, resized & added border. This was the first time I decided not to use Neat Image after I saw the preview, I might be learning something after all...

| Excellent composition and very pretty flower and branch. Good background and low key frame. Minor crits: the flower may be a bit overexposed on the left edge and below, or it could just be that stark white. Also, the stamen area of this flower could be clearer--it seems to have some chroma noise. (Note: I scored this a few days ago, so if a score coincides with this critique, it isn't mine.) |
