 I took this shot off Campus Point near UCSB during a huge swell that rolled in last wednesday. I was out there pretty much all day and took close to 300 shots, this being one of the best. I tweaked the contrast and lightness a bit and then went on to give it a sepia hue in Photoshop CS.

Looks like the sun was in the wrong position. I think this would do a lot better if you could have gotten it so the water and the sky were blue

So nature's old and men are new. Yes, I like that interpretation. I don't know how to link the birds to it, but for the rest, your picture is very interesting. The boat in the background is a nice detail. I don't like the centered horizon though. Cropping off some of the bottom and off the top would have given you a perfect rule of thirds. 9.

Wow, great light, great shot, although I find the rock in the foreground a bit distracting

What's missing is a link to the theme which is a shame as I think this would have done really in another challenge. I can see it scoring low because of this.

i'm not quite sure how it fits the challenge. Man as a specie is pretty old, too. Also, the yellowish tone does not quite work here, in my opinion

I don't see old and new juxtaposed. 2 Nice shot though. I may give it a 9 if it met the challenge.

This is a great picture, but there isn't really any comparison between old and new in this one. I love the color tone by the way.

Great surfing shot looks like a great tube ride coming here. How it relates to the challenge is a bit of a mystery to me.

Amazing award-winning pic but not a good example of the juxtaposition of old and new.
Congrats though on an amazing capture.
