DAMN... Powerful image and beautifully presented. I completely agree with blemt's comments about the fact that it could be any war, any person, at any time. A very timely and timeless shot.

Thank you for the excellent advice and compliments! Right now I work at an internet-affiliate place building their web sites but it's pretty boring and doesn't really let me do anything creative but make banners and sidebars in photoshop. But, I also teach art lessons to younger children. I have an exibit at the local art gallery with mostly some paintings and a few photographs. During the summer I was planning apply to the local newspaper as a photographer and also try the cable company because I love film and video more than anything and there is so much I want to learn in that field. So yep, theres my scoop... I also paint murals and some yearbook photography in my school for my community hours of service! (In Canada you need 40 to pass highschool.)

Who's really being offensive, the creator's demonstration of a possible reality, or the person who somehow found it offensive...

Thanks to all others for the comments.

Get over it.

Its a great photo. If it offends you, look away, don't vote and don't comment.

And I really don't care if I get burned for this comment.

I'm a big fan of photojournalistic images that tell a story. This one does that perfectly. It has a timeless feel to it, could be any war, any country, any time. (Well not quite any time cause the helmet design is wrong, but you get my gist.) Nice job with the modeling, and the hint of smoke. It's a little on the dark side (not subject wise, but light wise) and might be worth bumpin up a notch in density. 10

WOW!!! How powerful is this picture. Really drives home the fears of all of us with family in the military. (10)

That's absolutely heartbreaking, especially today. It fits the challenge well in my opinion and has a strong message at the same time.

I like the concept, but this doesn't look real to me. The paper seems so clean compared to the arm and the mist looks very much like it was added in post.

Interesting. I cannot relate to the background that well, but it is a very good concept. Some more damage and dirt on the in and outside of the helmet might work. I like the smoke, but a bit more intense could be better. 8

I wish this photo was in another contest because it would have received a 10. I just don't see this as normal human activity. dieing for your country doesn't seem in the catagory of "normal" to me even though it's going on right now.
