Cheap Homemade lighting setup. Cost about 16 dollars. Wslmart all the way. My light originally had scatted everywhere, but I made my own modifier. Kinda like barndoors, but not. I put white posterboard around the light to direct it to a small area, and then covered the white so no extra light got through. Shot handheld with 50mm 1.8 lens.

This is just wonderful, and it's a bit shocking to see such a good entry that placed well that has so few comments. The lighting is remarkable considering what you were working with. The composition is just terrific and the overall feeling is one of quiet solitude. Makes me think of the bass player sitting alone in the dark picking off some melancholy tune. The lower hand is a bit hot, and that kind of counters the mood to me a bit. I imagine that's a matter of figuring out new ways to control your creative lighting. Keep at it!

I like the mysterious feel about not knowing who it is. The right hand looks a little blown out but doesn't take away from the shot. I am a bass player and am sort of partial to a photo like this. I also like the left arm being dimly lit in this. Great shot.

I had a feeling this was yours! Great shot, love the lighting. One tiny blowout on the hand, but not enough to make it distracting. Terrific job!

Beautiful use of light to highlight the guitar and right hand. Makes a beautiful abstract.
