The invention of the airplane certainly ranks as 'breaking new gound' in the weapons and strategies of war. World War II, with planes like those modelled in this photograph, really brought that fact to light.

As for photography, while I don't believe this photograph to be 'ground breaking' in the world of photography, it is ground breaking for me in the sense that it is the first time I tried to photograph a model in a 'realistic' setting.

I used the Canon 200mm f2.8L lens to create a narrow field of view. Since I was only standing a few feet away from the plane I stopped the lens down to f8 to try and get enough depth of field to get most of the plane in focus, leaving the front and tail just slightly out of focus for the effect of depth.

The 'clouds' are actually steam rising from the water cooling towers where I work. The plane, of course, is a model airplane sitting on my pickup. The shot was taken in full afternoon mid-winter sun.

Shame the rod attaching the plane is there. Nice BG, also good clarity. Not sure where the innovative technique is.

Like the image overall even though the stand is a little odd...but then again why make belief it´s real when it´s obviously not....very nice

If you chaneg the angle so you couldnt see the stand it might look better, more of an illusion!
