 Windsor plantation was built in 1859 and it is said that Mark Twain used to stand in the rooftop observatory and look out over the Mississippi River. The house contained 25 rooms and 25 fireplaces and the basement housed a schoolroom, dairy and supply rooms. The rooftop observatory held signal equipment used to signal Confederate troops of Union advances.

It was used as a Union hospital during the Civil War and that's what probably saved it from being burned during the war but during a party in 1890, a guest left a cigar burning on the upper balcony and the house burned to the ground. Only a few columns and the iron staircase were left. The staircase now resides at nearby Alcorn State University.

Windsor Ruins have been featured in several movies, including Raintree County and Ghosts of Mississippi.

This photo feels "spooky" to me. In a good way, I mean. I like it. Is this sepia, or duotone of some sort? Nice touch with the darkened edges. And I don't care what anyone says about borders. I like the border, too.

This is a great find and I like this shot but have a couple of suggestions. First, I'm not crazy about the burning around the border. It's very obvious and not needed. Second, the lighting seems a bit harsh. Maybe to much contrast? This might have been unavoidable because of the time of day. I'd like to see this image with softer lighting. Good luck!

Gave this top marks. Very clever composition and vantage-point. You're not afraid to have parts of the picture quite dark which is a rare thing on DPC. Like the tint and the vignetting.
