Camera: Canon EOS-300D Rebel
Location: Earth
Date: Jan 14, 2005
Aperture: f6 telescope
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/320th
Galleries: Sky, Astrophotography
Date Uploaded: Jan 14, 2005

Taken through an 8 inch F6 reflecting telescope fitted with solar filter.
Giant sunspot number 720 is about as wide as the planet jupiter and still growing and may produce an x class flare.
Ok it`s not breaking new gound but not many people shoot the sun.

Predicted score 4.8 if i`m lucky.

Update has produced an X3 class flare.

Just wanted to say, that this is a great photo. Not all photographs have to be pretty. Sometimes we are after documenting something greater, right?

Here on DPC, you rarely come across photos from space. People expect photos to be perfect. Yet they seem to totally miss the beauty in imperfection.

Well done.

Heh. Good thing you never went into astronomy.

Good show Mark! Unique picture with lots of appeal (especially to the geekier among us)

Cute. This must be an orange ball with some good effects, hard work, and most likely both. The lighting is nice.

This is a very nice effort with what appears as sun spots. Yes, if no filter, no camera left. lol Bumping up.

Not sure if this is just a yellow ball :D. Interesting to say the least.

Right went and looked, and seems like it is the sun! Wow! Never seen that before so pretty darn cool. Presume you colored it in photoshop as none of the others were yellow. But still very unique (to me) 10
