This is a pleasant enough image, but it lacks the emotional layering that makes a truly effective candid, IMO. I really have no sense of what the moment IS; it's just a quiet little vignette. I have no doubt that if we could see the boy's face, the image would be much more satisfying.
The composition of the image is very static, and that also is not helping your cause. The empty area to the right of the bench, the extraneous foliage, are carrying an undue weight int his composition, and nothing that is happening between the subjects is of sufficient gravity to keep my eye fromw andering off into this area.
On the plus side, the tonalities of the B/W conversion are lovingly rendered and quite satisfying.

Nice moment caught mid-gesture... try to capture eye contact between subjects or from one to the other, it's very engaging |

I'm not really pulling an emotional context out of this one, it's too low-key a moment to grab me as a candid image. |
