Man standing on beach.

As I was walking on the beach I saw this guy standing so serenely and knew I had to get a picture. I didn't want him to open his eyes and see me taking his picture, so I had the camera in my hand down at my side facing up. The camera was vertical.

He was actually standing perfectly errect, not leaning back. But since the camera was at my side, it was crooked. I rotated the picture 90 degrees and cropped out some extraneous people and buildings from the bottom. I left it crooked as if he was facing up toward the sun. . . or whatever.

I tried to despecled the sky a little, but I don't think I did it enough. I don't really know how to. I need to get NI.

I tried fixing the crookedness so he was straight up, and was successful, but I felt it did not have the same impact as this.

Nice contrast of warm light on the skin to the dreary background -- a ten.

This can look very much posed. The light is sublime, though and the daring composition is quite good.

This is simple, simple = good. Watch your crop; mid-forearm is awkward... a shot like this without an interesting background needs depth and/or scale, i.e. need more background/environment. At the very least, if the sky were richer/darker/more saturated (hint: polarizing filter) it would add drama

Outstanding use of subject and background. By far one of the best entries I have seen. Top effort, keep up the good work.

Wonderful shot. I love the expression and the use of negative space.

Good luck in the challenge.

A striking image. Sky artefacts downgrade this in my eyes.

Awesome lighting. Day break or sun set?

Great use of the square crop. This could easily be staged, but comes off as relaxed and the light quality really lends to the sense of serenity. If more top sky was available in the orginal shot, would recrop just above/right at the belly button to force the subject into a solid left corner 3rd and a larger negative space, but that is not worth deducting for. 7
