crop, adjust hue/saturation/brightness to get orange color -- fade that.

adjust hue/sat/brightness to get blue then fade that.

add border.

I assume this will get down-voted because it creates electricity -- although the details clearly say 'something that is mechanical and doesn't use electronics as a means of operation'. This generator uses wind as a means for operation and creates electricity from the magnets and coils of wires inside like a car generator.

Oh well I hope it does ok at least...despite the un-level horizon.

Well, it was between this and the same shot with a tryptich border. I thought the tryptich border actually brought everything together and the focus more toward the generator itself, but due to some recent comments about them, I decided to submit this one instead.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone -- very nice comments. I can't believe this placed 34 out of 243 though...wow.

Very nice, and interesting colors, though they somehow don' look natural given the split and transition (I am not assuming they are PSd, just noting that's my impression). Compositionally, I think the angle of the blades would work better without a centered composition (or maybe if it were shot head on). It almost presents itself like a geometric abstract, so I can't help but wonder if this might have been improved by excluding the little bit of ground presented.

The composition and technical execution of this shot leave a whole lot to be desired, unfortunately.

very nice color. I would have shot this framed left, but that doesn't mean it would be better, just different. Nice work.

Not in focus and overly centered.

I think this would have been a winner with a less centered composition and a more level foreground. Fits the challenge and delivers nice color.

lower horizontal line ruins balance

This is great! I really like the simple mechanics set against the beauty of the sky!

nice shot. This would have been a good time to use the rule of thirds. At least for the placement of the subject. Still a really nice shot.

This wouldn't be my first choice for how to express the concept "mechanical", but it's a hauntingly lovely image, saved from stagnance by the gentle slope of the treeline horizon.
