This was my first entry on DPC. Thanks for all the feedback. The most common comment was that I should have used a deeper DOF in this photo (although several people said they liked the DOF I used). Well, that rock just looked beautiful to me and to capture it how I wanted, my camera needed to be in macro mode. Because of that, I don't think I could have had a deeper DOF, although if I'm wrong, please correct me. Anyway, I had fun with this one and it was cool to see all of the positive things people said about my photo.

Nice shot

Nice colors ... my opinon, I would have rather had the cactus in focus with the foreground blured ... but that is just my opinion!

Very nice composition. I love the contrast of objects and the contrast of colors working together.

Not too sure about the cactus â€Â¦ should it be more in focus ???

Different shot in an area all your own. I am misled as to the main subject, and if it was intentional you did a good job. Pics don't have to be by the old rules to be good.

I'm not crazy about the way you used the DOF in this picture.

Nice compositon, color and texture. Good job!

The sky would improve with a little positive gamma adjustment - looks a bit too gray/dark from here. The lichens are great, but the oof cactus and noise in the sky detract. I'm guessing you were in macro mode, so not much you could do about the depth of field.

whata fantastic moss/sky contrast
04/30/2002 11:51:00 AM
Nice job but I would prefer to see the Cactus in Focus too. Great Color.
04/30/2002 09:31:00 AM
Love the light green in the foreground. Nice shot!
04/30/2002 04:28:00 AM
nice color

I think that either the yellow... stuff or the cactus would have been good subjects, but together they compete for attention.
04/29/2002 05:41:00 PM
I like how you used DOF here. Good job.
04/29/2002 04:52:00 PM
I like the way you focused on the rock thingy and sort of blurred out the cactus in the background.
04/29/2002 03:36:00 PM
Nice greens and blues. Composition is pretty good here.
04/29/2002 01:52:00 PM
i don't know why, but i love this shot...the yellow is really amazing and the cactus is cool, even though it's blurred, it's supposed to be - achiral
04/29/2002 12:41:00 PM
Nice composition!
04/29/2002 11:34:00 AM
Subject (stone) and background (Saguaro Cactus) apprears to be too prominent in the photo.
04/29/2002 11:05:00 AM
Very cool. Nice DOF, good colors. I'd like the cactus to lean a bit more to the left.
04/29/2002 10:03:00 AM
Awesome greens! Your perspective is terrific.
04/29/2002 09:55:00 AM
Is it too much to ask that the Saguaro be in focus too? Otherwise nice composition, I particularly like the detail in the yellow on the rock. I was visiting Tucson last week and very nearly submitted a shot of one of the giant cactus myself.
04/29/2002 09:36:00 AM
The cactus is too much a part of the image to not be in focus
04/29/2002 08:43:00 AM
I would have preferred the focal point of this picture to be the cactus personally, but I like the colors and contrast of the rock on the left
04/29/2002 07:38:00 AM
Did you try to get the cactus in focus? I do like it. Great colors on the rock.
04/29/2002 06:51:00 AM
interesting plants, beautiful blue sky. I wish the cactus was in focus
04/29/2002 05:52:00 AM
I really like the concept of this photo and how it meets the challenge... However, i really wish the cactus was in sharp focus rather than the rock in the front of the frame. The subject (cactus) should be the focal point of this shot unless I am missing something here... Good shot!
04/29/2002 05:49:00 AM
i dont know if its just me but, my eye keeps returing to the cactus and it is out of focus. i know that you focused on the rock, but i think that i would have gone with the cactus instead. probably a difference in preference.
04/29/2002 04:51:00 AM
like the sharpness & colours
04/29/2002 04:48:00 AM
Good composition, depth of field, nice deep dark blue sky
04/29/2002 04:44:00 AM
Wish the cactus was more in focus, but interesting, none the less
04/29/2002 04:01:00 AM
I've never seen anything like this. The green looks like what I see on seashells or bottoms of boats from the ocean. What a nice way to see things from other parts of the world that I never have seen before:) I love the focus on that. I do wish the catus wasn't blurred as much as it is. Still a nice capture !
04/29/2002 03:38:00 AM
I wish there ws more depth of field here.
04/28/2002 11:22:00 PM
beautifull!! a nice contrast of color
04/28/2002 08:34:00 PM
This would have been more plesaing to me if the cactus were in focus as well, try this shot with a deeper DOF...
