Good angle & has nice lighting. Good despair shot. You might want to try this in black & white. Nice job.

I like the point of few in the photo. The light is also nice. |

I think this would've been a stronger image in greyscale. Its not bad in color, but it needs something. The despair part is a stretch though for this pic. |

i don't see "despair" in this photo, i like the angle and how everything is focused really well |

If that queen had an expression on her face it would be despair pure! Great shot, I am convinced....Cool DOF! |

Solid photo, good color and focus. Unless it's black's turn, this is stalemate and the queen isn't really needed. 7 Swash |

Only the aficionado will feel what your intending here...a little too esoteric..... |

Much better than the other chess shot...although I favor their set to yours. At least this is a plausible game of chess. Pretty good shot, I'm just not sure I like the background! |

I like the feeling being conveyed. Not very dramatic though, perhaps the reflections on the board are distracting me. |

the idea is nice. But the image would truely benefit from a more dramatic lighting. The lighting as it is is quite plain and uninteresting to look at. That's the thing with innanimated objects: the surrounding and lighting is very important to bring out the emotion you want to vehiculate through your image. There are some other chess shots in this challenge, as you probably saw. There's two with excellent lighting. Look for them for future ispiration. 3 |

go for black and white here... then adjust the brightness and contrast to washout the background so it looks like negative space... would help a lot here |

Nice clear photo with good lighting. The two different colors in the background kind of throw me off - don't really care for it. Don't know a thing about chess, and in that context, have to say that this photo does not convey "despair" to me in any way. |
