Port Deposit is a small town (Population 625) located on the Susquehanna River near its discharge into the Chesapeake Bay. It was historically a trading point for ships between Philadelphia and the Chesapeake. The Tome Steps are named after Jacob Tome who established a boys school in the town The 75 steps were constructed in 1905 to make it easier for the students to get from the Main Street to the school which was on a hill. The school building has since been abandoned and burned down. Another school was established in another location.
I chose this subject for the challenge after some research and the desire to try to compose an image from an angle different from any I had seen in my research. It turned out to be a fun day as Port Deposit was an interesting and photogenic little town.
