Anita, from the Queen of Silhouettes, I̢۪m just flattered by your comments. Thank you! 107 attempts. I had several with a single rider I was quite content with. I didn̢۪t even know I got this one until I downloaded the images! Pleasantly surprised to say the least. This a full frame image, no cropping. 100 degree temps and I had to walk to the spot and didn̢۪t want to lug a second lens; Figured I̢۪d be better off with the 70-200, wrong. At 70 mm, my back was against a barbed wire fence with six foot dense weeds behind it.

Sunset was around 8:30 pm, and the riders had to be off the track by 8:30, so I wasn̢۪t going to get the golden light I wanted. This one was snapped at around 7. I̢۪m at the bottom of a 20 feet hill, so the illusion of sunset is there. I did have to play with this to get the light color I wanted. I actually used your latest entry as a guide. It̢۪s a natural vignette, not added. Exposure was really tricky because I could not time very well where the riders would be with the sun and they were very fast. Ended up with a high shutter speed priority with an automatic 5 stops underexposure dialed in. Most of the riders had called it a day by 7:30 and were leaving.

Thanks everyone for the wonderful comments. I know now where the higher scores come from. Wish I could figure out the 4s and 5s.

Wow, that is some backstory, thank you. You deserve the blue even more because of what you had to achieve to get this perfect shot. Usually behind every great image, there̢۪s a fantastic story, thanks for sharing. As for the lower votes, I̢۪ve worked out there are just some people that don̢۪t know a very good photo if they fell over it; and of course, then there̢۪s the other reason, which we won̢۪t go into. It̢۪s best not to think about it :)

Cheers and all the best.

Seriously Don 100%, absolutely fantastic photo!

I would̢۪ve been so proud to have shot something like this, perfect, in every way. And I loved the fragments of earth the tyres brought forth, perfectly composed image and wonderful edit, if indeed you did edit it, doesn̢۪t look like much was done. I cannot understand why this did not score over eight. Would love to know how many takes it took to achieve this.

Many congratulations on your personal best.

Looks like an outtake from the Silhouettes challenge. This would have been AWESOME for that one. I like this. Wish there was a little less foreground and a lot more dirt (in the air).
