This was taken in one of the abandoned buildings at Angel Island, which served as an immigration detention center (mostly for immigrants of Chinese descent in the early 1900s) and later on as a Japanese internment camp during World War II. The walls were lined with poems carved in different languages. Common themes were of homesickness, despair, discrimination, loneliness and hope. These poems were sort of the inspiration for this image. Thank you for asking and letting me share.

This was my favorite of the challenge. I like that you put yourself in the picture to personify it. And now I love being able to see the background info about the scene. Congratulations on the red!

Thanks Jed, for the write-up. I really think you were robbed, of the blue, I mean the blue was a great image also. But this one resonated with me. It really touched at the heartstrings. I would love to know why anyone would score it under five, let alone under 8.

I really felt this would have received many many comments.

Adding as a fave, I̢۪ve always loved your photography.

This is so wonderful. Has that Odriew feel to it.Would love to know the story behind this unique building and the way it's been carved out. Loving the edit. My only 10 in this challenge.
