I love Puffing Billy and had the opportunity to volunteer with them for a while. The train runs every day except Christmas Day, and the steam engine drivers work exceptionally long hours on top of that! They start between 4 and 5am and spend 4+ hours prepping the engines so that they can run smoothly throughout the day. It a hard, hot, sweaty and dirty job but they all love it! There is such an immense satisfaction that comes from serving the community in this way; all the staff at Puffing Billy are volunteers!
