This poor baby was on our front stoop the other day. Assumed she was dead because the bug sprayer had been around the previous week. Today I was putting a package outside and tried to flick her body away and noticed her front leg moving feebly. Her belly hourglass still plain as day and bright red!
First I felt really bad for her laying there like that. Then I thought, wow! Photo op! I flipped her over and "posed" her legs as best as I could with a blade of grass. She was very weak, but still able to hold position. Moved another already dead bug in her view and then grabbed the macro lens and started shooting.
When it was all complete...
I gently nudged her onto a leaf and moved her to a bush away from the sprayed area so she could hopefully recover, though I fear she probably won't. But no way was I going to kill her -- I release any bugs I can except for ticks, mosquitos, roaches, and ants.

Here's the baby as I was moving her, showing her hourglass too.
The ball of white is her web which I'm sure leaked from her as she was getting weaker :(

Wow... this one did not resonate at all. First vote a 5... got up to a 5.2, but then a 4(!!!!) brought it down to 5 again where it stayed still.
DPC needs a "Withdraw Entry without DQ" option to make the bleeding stop! :)

Wow... people are really showing their BEHIND on voting, lol...
Taking a strictly literal 180 degree behind the subject vs. a more normal interpretation of say +/- 45 degrees left/right.
Oh well... just got two-bombed and below a 5 for now. Sheesh! |
