i was staring at this at work today, laughing at your description. my bosses think i'm nuts because everytime they walk by, i have something boring, un-funny and work-oriented on my screen. ;)

totally love it.

In response to my self-portrait --- I think that your shot beats mine by a LONGSHOT! I really like the mood portrayed here and how the heart offsets the rest of the photograph. Really brilliant and this is just one of the examples where DPC voters overlook great artistic ability.

I also want to chime in, really enjoyed this image. Now that others mention it, a different material for the heart might have worked better, but I love the painterly feel.

There is a little resistance with artistic images. Keep up the good work and you will soon find the formula which will allow you to be artistic while winning the hearts of the voters. You can do it.

Returning for comments:
A very artistic entry. I like it. the gaze is just right with enough detail to discern the desperation. The entire image breathes in another time zone and the fingers against the glass add that malleable liquid feel. The only change I would make would be to have made the heart transparant. Otherwise, the effort is to be highly praised. 7

I consider myself an edgy person, and I feel this has that edgy feel. I'm giving it an 8, I don't really like the red tint on the image, and not sure about the gas mask, but it speaks out to me. I feel like this image will do poorly though because everyone and their mothers are only concerned about Techincally good photos on this site, and its a shame. Keep up the good work though.

Interesting concept. I like the worn look of the photo - colors, grain. The gas mask ads the industrial touch. Great job!

Very inventive. The cardboard (?) heart looks a little out of place compared to the rest of the photo. Points for originality.

Disturbing image. Huge emotional payload. Colors help convey the sense of dispair. I would have given it an extra point without the heart.

what a shame that you used a paper heart, there must be an other way. I like this except the paper heart, the paper heart don't belong in this picture. May be a real heart from a pig or cow could have been used, or an symbol.
