Just having fun playing with light. I tried shooting the apple with a flash and found it too flat ... so it got me thinking of how I could give the apple more depth.

I placed the apple in the bottom right corner because the light is coming from upper left corner. I gave it a bit of room to breath. I tried a tighter crop; I didn't find the effect as dramatic.

Used a black cloth for the background and one light source. Darked the background with the histogram adjustment in PSP. Sharpend a bit. Used Neatimage to reduce the grain (a little bit).

That's it. It was fun and easy to do.

You follow the rules here, and the image works for me. Try this, put the apple in the upper left and light it from the bottom right (the opposite of how it is now). For me, this adds a sense of mystery to it, especially considering your title.

The bright spot is a little distracting, but very nicely done otherwise.

Very nice, good color, dramatic use of shadows. Like the bottom right hand frame composition.

The apple looks duel. maybe from the light you used. Try using a defuser or a tissue in front of the light. Still a great shot and well executed. good luck.

Very nice apple shot. I was suprised to see so many apples this challenge, since they aren't realy that yellow or what pops to mind when I think of yellow. Regardless, this is my favorite one. 7

Wow - sweet photo. Only complaint is that it appears to be a bit on the grainy side. It's only 30k in size, less compression could have helped. Nice submission nonetheless.

One of my favorites. Great focus and use of Negative space. The lighting is perfect. I can't tell if it is just a bit over-sharpened or not.

Nice image. It was very well thought of and planned. I really like how the black background adds a lot to the image. Good job.

I like the contrast and lighting. might be oversharpened a bit... plus the left needs a little crop... nice effort though

Nicely done. The moon phase look was a real good idea here. It makes your subject very interesting. You have also executed this composition very well with some great shadow usage.

A great example of what a border should do. :-) A simple, striking shot. 8

It's certainly a different shot for an apple. I like the composition but the apple is a little grainy - perhaps from washing the colour out (if the apple was originally a different colour). It also looks like it has been sharpened too much.
