Wow! I think this photo is a 10 in every aspect! I love the statement it makes, and I think it is processed to perfection as far as my tastes and what touches and appeals to my heart goes. It̢۪s beautiful, and I think it fits the challenge perfectly! |

OH, I didn't get that, but now as you explained it it makes sense. |

Thank you, I really appreciate your comment. We obviously disagree ;-), but that's OK. Thanks for explaining your score.

Again, I would never question a 5 or higher, but thank you for your comments.
Re the cloning - I thought that was not allowed? there was an image DQed just last week for cloning out a lens spot.
These particular smudges :-) - I left in on purpose. For me they add to the "imperfect self image". I have had this discussion with other people before :-). Guess sometimes I am a bit too "deep" ;-)

There is so much dark space in your photo - which is good because it makes it clean and simple, on the other hand it was too much black for my personal taste. I'm a supporter of close crop - if it was my entry I would have cropped it more boldly on all sides but especially on the top.
Also there seem to be some scratches or unevenness in the reflecting foil (cheek and nose area, armpit) which I found distracting.
And last point which caused a downvote:
The facial expression of your model (or yourself if it is a selfportrait?) is too grave, almost arrogant. I would have prefered some mischievous grin, a winking eye - something more humorous - matching the distorted reflection which might remind the viewer of a distorting mirror at a funfair. But that is definitely a question of personal taste - I know professional models are not supposed to look friendly especially when presenting fashion.
Sorry - I didn't want to critizice too harshly but since you asked I thought it might be ok to say my opinion frankly. And I liked your photo good enough to give it a 6. |
Constructive criticism is never harsh :-). And no, its not a self portrait :-).
Thank you.
Personally I like black and dark images, so this is really a personal "style" :-).
I also wanted to portrait how many beautiful woman don't see their own beauty but have a distorted image of themselves. It was not supposed to be a humorous image.
Having said all that, I would not really question a score of 5 let alone 6. There are always personal preferences that come into play. Thank you for taking the time to comment though, I really do appreciate. My question was really for the below 5 score. This is technically a "good" image (it has had several international Salon acceptances) and it fits the theme. I want to know where some viewers have found critical fault. And having said that, there are excellent photographers on dpc and I hope that I can honestly improve when hearing from them.

I gave this a 6. I thought it was well done, but it just didn't impact me enough for me to rate it higher. Not sure why. It certainly didn't deserve anything less than a 5 IMO, but it is rare that any entry escapes a handful of low votes. Everyone has different criteria for rating. Some will give a 1 to a perfect photo with tons of impact because they have seen a similar shot before.

Yes I'd love to know how this fetched 2,3,4 and even 5 scores. It is a stunning shot! |

Finally, a non landscape water reflection, here's an eight nine for something different. |
