 On the left is the Statue of Liberty. In the center is Ellis Island, through which passed the forebears of 30% of Americans. The steepled building on the right is the Central Railroad of New Jersey Terminal. The cavalcade of dinosaurs in the distant right is comprised of loading cranes for container ships in the Port of Newark, in New Jersey.

The title is taken from Emma Lazarus' poem, "The New Colossus," the final lines of which are...

“Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”
