On the same morning I went out to take pictures for the bicycle challenge I passed by the remnants of an old farm house. I had been thinking of what to do for this challenge and the idea to mimic Ms. Bourne-White’s holocaust experience and photography came to me as I envisioned the stone facade as what could have been a building for the annihilation of prisoners. I set up my camera on a tripod. Drew the number 124876 on my arm to duplicate the tattoos burned into the prisoners arms for identification and rubbed dirt over my arms. Using the 10 second trigger delay on my camera I made several attempts at achieving the effect I was hoping for. Having read about the holocaust and this sad period in world history I could not imagine the cruelty of humans against other humans that existed then and persists today. Ms. Bourke-White’s images stand as a reminder of the atrocities of the Holocaust and a warning to humanity of what can happen if we allow hate to flourish.
