This is an example of why it would be nice to be able to include a story.

People will see the power lines as a distraction and something that brings down the value of the photo. But in this case, the power lines are the reason for the photo.

Cant ignore reality -- grapples with after the fact assessment

People didn't want the power line. The James River is home to Jamestown Settlement and Jamestown island. A very important part of our history.

There were many hearings/court cases, etc. against the power line. Yet when there was a quick lull in the action, before things were really settled, they built it anyway.

Then the federal appeals court withdrew their permits and said they needed to do an environmental impact study.

AFTER it was almost completely built.

Amazing how quick things can get done when you're trying to sneak them by, isn't it?

I adore this photo. I think it speaks to the whole issue. I was hoping for more comments -- but I greatly appreciate that the one I receive hit it right on the mark without knowing it. Thanks for the comment!
