 Traffic lights are perhaps an overlooked source of authority. We obey them unconsciously. The idea for traffic lights as an authority struck me while looking through a photography book. I didn't quite get the shot that I wanted as I either couldn't find the right set of lights and/or my zoom wasn't long enough. So the traffic lights aren't nearly as big as I would like.
One thing I realized while shooting this, many of streets in Montreal are very well lit. I kept trying to stop down and reduce the exposure because I needed the long shutter for the lines but the photos usually were too bright so I had to compensate in PS.

I totally agree. Like I mentioned in my comment the streets are so bright in this town or at least this part of town. I tried as much as I could to darken the scene and I didn't have any filters at the time.

I was going to ask whether this shot was taken in montreal... for some reason I am oddly satisfied by the fact that I was right (the street signs tipped me off).

As for the photo - you might have exposed it fractionally too long..the stars are a little too pronounced, but definately a better than average shot in this challenge.

i flipped it because I felt the image looked better with the lines going from left to right.

The source of authority was supposed to be the traffic lights as they tell us what to do and we obey unconsciously. I didn't have quite the zoom necessary to enlarge it to make it prominent enough to be the subject however.

its a nice picture but the light trails are a little bumpy and look slightly chaotic. i like the juxtaposition of red and green... it is nearing christmas after all lol.

I like the vivid colors, but with so many of them, I can't seem to find any one focal point. It ends up being somewhat restless, without a strong point.

Great idea. The signs and stop lights really add to the message of the photo. The headlights running across the image are too much, maybe fewer streaks would keep the image to a more managable message for my eye. Brilliant colors.
