this gets at the complicated relationship between life and art. The saying is that Art Imitates Life, and sure you can see that here. You are imitating a deer in the forest. But you're not attempting to fool us. You're actually trying to create a magical sort of world. Art Creates An Imitation Of A Nonexistent Life. And you do it by assembling other people's art, an imitation of a nonexistent deer and imitations of nonexistent trees. You use perspective to create an illusion of depth, but your background only conveys snowfall, it doesn't convey ground and sky, so the objects float in a sentimental nothingness. This is the Magic of which you speak: no meaning, no themes, no insights into the human condition, just the Magic for its own sake, just an assertion of the power of human imagination. |

Would make a beautiful holiday card, but a little too cartoonish for my photographic taste. |
