On our way home (from vacation) a nice visit to a museum depot (with the knitting club of my wife), where I photographed a lot of different knitting patterns from the 19th century. Back and front side, so I have a lot of photos to process now ;)

The idea is to get a clue about the knitting technique in the past, but that's not my expertise.

Beautiful white on white texture.

Nice detail and pattern. I would like to visit this museum.

Great pattern and I'm a sucker for white on white AND design elements, so of course I like this.

Andi contributed a great piece of trivia here: "I'm sure you are aware but will tell you anyway - in years gone by fishermen wore knitted sweaters, the patterns were so localised that when bodies were washed ashore after an accident the fishermen could be identified by their sweaters!"

When I don't get in to an image early, I try to comment without reading the comments but then always scroll down to read before I post. I find those times when I either virtually parrot or, conversely, completely contradict someone else's opinion particularly interesting. Neither was the case here, of course.

It's nice to hear that they have museums like this. Square comp works well to highlight these kinds of close-in detail.

Lovely pattern. I remember when the world was awaiting a new arrival, knitting needles would be a-clicking amongst the relatives. Now everyone buys a Bond's wondersuit or something.

I wondered when (not if) knitting would make an entrance :)
