My first thought was a mirror, their face structures are similar, i see the older woman. Wonderful lineup.

Happiness is a cigar called Hamlet

This is my return to comment and I've just noticed in the painting/mirror there is a woman looking at the man (who is) looking at the woman. This is becoming a complex image.

Wonderful study and thought-provoking title. I hope she is. However much fun that's displayed in the conjunction of the rakish guy overlooking her shoulder, this heartfelt portrait can stand strongly on its own.

I see it as a mirror too. That guy's over <<<< there, and he's behaving rather smarmingly if you ask me. It may be the tousled hair or the aquiline nose...

the woman encircles her arms about his shoulders, trying in vain to pull his attention back to her and away from the other woman

for some reason I think of this as a malfunctioning mirror.

the painting is so insistent, and she is so casual. surely the painting will win this.
