CRITIQUE CLUB CRITIQUE

COMPOSITION
The composition of this is strengthened by the pattern created by the coins, and the diagonals they form. I think the number of coins is okay, you just need a few more up in the upper left corner where it is open. maybe cropping it tighter on teh left would prevent you from having to stand any more coins up!
TECHNIQUE
I think the depth of field is okay, personally, but historically, dpc voters like a lot of focus! The shadows of the coins also has a nice effect. That said, I will try to give some suggestions that would make it score higher (not necessarily what I think is better, understand). I think it may be a touch dark. Since you were using natural light, it is difficult to change that, I understand. Maybe a slower shutter speed or smaller aperture number (though your aperture seems to be pretty small), but I don't know if your camera will allow you to adjust that. I also think you need a "purer" background. The color is okay, but I can see lines that make me think this is a piece of paper or something.
OVERALL EFFECT
A neat thing about this picture is if you stare at it long enough, the coins seem to be suspended. Your "Waldo" is hidden, I think, and I think it is effective that the depth of field is small.
Good work, and good luck in future challenges. |

""Very patient set up. The real waldo, too! Middle plane of focus may get you some focus comments. Did you do this for a reason (maybe to help "hide" your Waldo?)? But your background is so plain, Waldo still stands out plainly. Maybe more coins??? 7 Swash""
Thank you Swash, and your comment explained everything I needed to say on my picture. It was a confusing challenge for me. Just wanted to say that I can't see on the rule saying "You are supposed to put a "REAL PERSON" anywhere! In my language, person could mean anything including in the cartoon world or even animals for some occasions. The challenge title was "Where's Waldo?" Right? Also, I made Waldo out of focus to hide him in the picture, so that he is meant be out of focus... I leant a lot from this challenge, and I will try more simple, and undarstandable shots from now on!! lol!!
Well, I think I still like this one, and the cropping I did was a bit wrong and more coins definitely would have made it better... Well, I really enjoyed taking this picture! Yes, was quite annoying to stand the coins up... They kept fallen down, and made me crazy!!
Anyway, I don't want to be rude, just needed to defend myself a bit this time... Thank you all for all the votes and comments, and let's have fun on next challenge!! |

Cool shot, I like the lighting and Waldo. The background is a bit distracting though with the lines. |

Nice job of standing up the coins! The "Waldo" seems to be an afterthought to this shot, though. |

Not enough focus for me personally. I'm assuming the little green thing is Waldo. To me it should have been in better focus, since it is the subject of the photo. I do like how you stood the coins on edge, nice touch. Your focus should be better to show that off. |

killer photo, probably my favorite so far. I'd reshoot it after the challenge without waldo because it looks so cool |

I see you!!! English pennys right? I would have prefered the focus to be wider on this photo though. Good idea anyway. |

Neat, but you were supposed to hide a real person, not Waldo. |

Good work - the long shadows really help this image. Waldo has been included nicely. I bet you had fun standing the coins on their sides as well. The depth of field is perhaps a little shorter than I would have chosen, but not bad. |

Too bad that little guy isn't in focus! Otherwise I would have scored you higher. |
