My first DPChallenge submission of a wooden manikin. Hopefully people aren't too tired of them to disregard my first attempt.
Title represents 3 levels: literal, allegorical, and existential.
Literal: He's looking at a marble.
Allegorical: He's speculating over the world.
Existential: He's wondering about his existence in a seemingly random and complex universe. It is an inner conflict vs. himself, he is battling the reality of his existence, reasoning his mortality, and contemplating a higher being. A grand search for individuality in a world of lists and a greater theorization of the continuation and endurance of time. Basically seeking a deeper meaning of life.
Editing: Grayscale, Cropping, Levels/B&C, Size, USM.
I wish I could burn a little bit (like the lower torso) but, ah well.
How image was taken: Wooden manikin setup in pose, tape strips in hand (you can see a piece of it), marble placed. 8 Second exposure highlighting the marble with a flash light from below, and painting the rest with a bit of ambient light and the flashlight's reflection. I took about 130 pictures with different variations and lighting. This was number 124, and I am very happy with it.
fantastic picture - awful title, and even worse alternative titles ;-)
i think you picked the best out of a bad bunch...
it could be interpreted as `Life` or `Creation` perhaps - in that he is holding life in his hands, this is depicted by the fact that darkness surrounds him - nothingness - yet in all of this is the fantastically bright orb, which gives light - perhaps also hope.
