My son Leifur once again (he's a victim of my recent camera purchase). This one was not set up, I was trying to get him to stay in place to get a shot for the hero challenge, but he was all over the place. He then walked into the kitchen and for a moment, stuck his head out of the kitchen to check out for myself. I cought him on "film" that instance and liked the shot.

Used Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 @ 1.8

Neat image, resize, sharpen and b/w conversion (used Digidaan's hue method: //www.digidaan.nl/channelmixer/index.html)

Greetings...

During the course of this week's voting on the black and white challenge, I have come back to this image several times. I always like to pick a 'best of show' photograph from each challenge, and this one is my choice of 'the best' in this massive group of black and white images.

Photos of children, or people in general, require some very special element to have universal appeal. This photo, IMO, has that special element. The photo is not a simple portrait, but it shows some emotion and possibly some amount of personality as well. Children are quite inquisitive and this is obvious in this photograph. The photo is 'cute' and very well executed.

The light you have provided in this image is perfect for creating just the right amount of contrast. There is no harsh light and no area that is too dark. The 'balance' is very nice.

I'm trying to find something to be critical about in this photo and I'm not coming up with much at all. The only possible room for 'change' that could have some effect on this photo would be with the chair in the foyer behind the child. That bit of darkness is eye catching and could possibly be competing with the child for attention. Removing the chair, however, would also remove the feeling of 'home' in this image. The photo doesn't appear to be completely candid because of the point of view taken, so maybe trying some additional opportunities with that chair could have been useful. I don't really think it should be removed. It appears ot have a coat or some other article of clothing draped on it. Maybe removing just that part would clean up the image to a state of complete perfection :) When you 'plan' a photograph and when you have almost complete control over the environment, there is no real reason not to evaluate the purpose of everything in the scene.

At any rate, this is a great image and it is my favorite of the week. I have added it to my favorites list and I really hope to see it in the top scoring photos in this challenge.... Congratulations and good luck :)

What a GREAT expression, and it's highlighted by the clean floor / wall backdrop. This is a CLASSIC.

This has a high 'cute' factor. Nice lighting. Is that a hamper in the background? Perhaps tidying up that particular location or removing it from the frame would have improved the composition.

:) excellent capture. You can almost feel a certain moment in time in this image. Although I am not related to this image I feel like I am in the position you would have been taking this shot. There's a great connection here. If I could suggest anything, it would be to correct the slight tilt to the right. Whatever is in the background doesn't bother me bacause I don't see it this image as a controlled studio set-up.
It's a great great great image :) You can tell I love this image. Well done and hope you ribbon.

Great DOF. The light on the left wall adds good contrast and balance.

An absolutely charming portrait. This really strikes me as very professional, very intriguing, highly individualistic and just the kind of work I could see hanging in some top notch art gallery. It's wonderful! Only -ve = the blow out on the wall to the right which could be corrected with a little spot editting after the challenge if you wanted.

peekaboo! good shot, good use of focus and framing.. couldnt be avoided i guess, but the floor gains a bit too much substance near the middle and gets a little distracting but over all bravo!

Love the lines and composition here.Neat Idea. I would have given it a higher score if it hadn't had the chair or whatever it is in front of the door.

hee hee. I chuckled for a while on seeing this. All these lines makes me wonder if it's level, though. Just a small question on a great shot. 9
