[Feb. 18th, 2018 08:51:57 PM]

This was an outtake from the Beds, Sofas and Chairs challenge. I was actually just trying to get her standing by the chair with the balloon, looking rather solemn. Trying for a "huh?" shot.

But there kept being bikers riding back behind her. It was a funky juxtaposition, so I'd try to catch those as they went by.

When looking through for the Art of 2017 entry, this one struck me. I don't think the colors or the composition is that artful, but I love that it seems a bit backwards to me. The girl is static, going nowhere, not full of much joy, yet the old man is out playing. It felt like the roles were reversed. We've finally learned to play in our old age, but yet have forgotten how to when we're young.

So maybe time passing us by isn't that bad of a thing -- if we continue to get younger as we get older.

For 10 votes, I was sooooooooo art! Started out at 8.5 with 2 votes and 7.0 with 10 votes. I had hoped to finish above 6 -- I've been so close a couple of times 5.94 and 5.97. There's still time, but I'm not holding my breath. (3 hours and 9 minutes is way to long to hold one's breath!!)

Thanks for the comments!

Putting a child next to an old man is the biggest cliche in the world, but to subvert a cliche is a great artistic pleasure. And this you do by putting the old man on a bike and having the young girl awkwardly waiting for ??? with a red heart balloon. And what's the chair for? In the middle of a field? It's so wonderfully dumb and campy. I mean, it sort of evokes more serious issues, like why is she waiting by an empty chair? Is it because society expects that when she grows up she needs a man to complete her? Meanwhile, the man is self-sufficient to the grave. The girl is clearly questioning this dichotomy. But at the same time, I'm not sure you really meant this, and I can just enjoy this as a nonsense collage of cliches. Your title, after all, only evokes the original cliche of my first sentence. Anyway, this is what art is about... collage, juxtaposing symbols and motifs in weird new ways. And I don't know what your intentions were, but art can happen accidentally.

The look on the girls face is perfect. Great capture.

Symbolism that works in more than one level is always welcome, and that diagonal look rounds the picture up for me.

Color plays a role in this big time. Not sure what's going on.

7 from me. I think I'd have liked it more without the man and bike putting a time date on it. I was enjoying the antique chair and timeless dress of the girl before he came into the image.
