 A juvenile Tricolored Heron (Egretta Tricolor) hunting for small minnows in the waters of Horsepen Bayou, Texas, USA...Photograph taken handheld from my Ascend H12 kayak.

Didn't have much luck with birds during the shooting time so hope this does well.

It was fun watching him hunt for 1.5 hours. My lens can focus as close as 4.5 feet and he would regularly get to close for my lens to focus. He was about 19 feet away for this photograph.

Oh, the first time he came near my kayak he pecked at it like he was saying to move along, you are in my hunting spot.

An appealing image that meets the challenge well

A great action shot Ronnie. The focus is lovely and crisp and sharp exactly where it matters, those eyes are superb. The prey being so small is a little difficult to distinguish at first but you're timing is spot on. As far as the challenge is concerned it does meet the challenge it is a bird with wings however, I think a shot where the wings are more obvious may have rewarded you even more but nevertheless its still a good image, well done and Happy New Year to you.
