 Thanks so much everyone, for the votes and the comments.
I pretty much put the camera down this summer and just took a break from photography (apart from helping out at a couple of weddings) so it feels great to be back at it again, and I couldn't be happier, being rewarded with a ribbon for this entry. This storm really was over the top, the wind was howling, waves crashing, temperatures near freezing. Horrible day for a walk but great day (as it turns out) for pictures!

This is Lac La Biche, Alberta. It's a large lake, can transition from glassy to whitecaps in a heartbeat so you need to be prepared/capable if you decide to head out on these waters. Not many people out & about on the shore at this time of the year - everyone's waiting for it to freeze solid so they can go ice fishing ;)

This is so much in the spirit of the German Romantic school of paintings. I love it for more reasons though; for its mystery, for the omens, for the gentleness and for its menacing feel
