Yes, this is actually looking up an elevator shaft toward an atrium. Every year the Chicago Architecture Association hosts Open House Chicago in which you can get into a lot of interesting buildings not normally open to the public. This was taken in the Brewster Apartments. Built in 1893, it is noted for its innovative steel frame construction. Before construction was completed, the architect fell from the eighth floor and died.

A consummate depiction of these lyrics. Intricate, precise, draws the eye right to the dazzling bottom and center -- which actually seems to be the top, lit like an epiphany. I like how the left corner, extending across the bottom right, is very dark, providing a visual anchor, a platform from which to leap.

Triggers my fear of heights =:-o IMO the image is even stronger if you crop down to get rid of the highlight on the upper right.
