There is a defined "etiquette" for surfing rights of way. When two surfers are attempting to catch the same wave, standard protocol gives preference to the "inside" surfer (the one closest to the initial break of the wave), in this case, the angry dude on the right who is being cut off by the guy on the left.

Didn't know I had this shot until I was culling my photos from the morning's shoot. Below are a couple of subsequent frames:

Just love how the guy getting cut off has the presence of mind - and agility - to flip the bird as he's stepping off his board into the waves :-)
