Thank you kdolso for being the only commenter to take the title and see beyond "Yet another pretty flower close-up but with an ugly fence." The setting is exactly as I found it. "Zero interference" is my policy, for now.
Thanks to everyone else who took the time to comment. With 683 entries it must have been tempting to leave comments out altogether! I'm certainly gaining an idea of what poeple like and what they don't. Great stuff! Thanks again.
Someone commented on the rose's focus being a little off. It is? Or was it(CRT) monitor glare? The focus is very near perfect on my screen. Hmmm, I guess the furtherest two petals are a little out of focus around the very edges. Pity I don't have the luxry of an SLR camera to see these things when the button goes down. One day... |

Good use of depth of field, and the water droplets look great. Nice composition running from the outside to the center. |

You might wanna use a smaller apperture to blur the background. Otherwise it's not very interesting and very much a cliche. |

I would like to see a sharper focus on the rose. Also the backgound is distracting. |

Lovely flower, good focus and exposure. Fence is distracting. 5 |

Hmmm... I get the feeling this picture would have been better in colour, It's a nice shot, but not really great as a black and white. |

I absolutely love this image. The hopefulness of having the flower face to the right, the water drops which symbolized the tears of healing for me. The values in the flower and the crispness of the petals are superb. I would crop the right edge in toward the flower a bit more so there is a feeling the moving beyond the pain is more within reach, but that is just a petty little comment. Outstanding work. Thanks for sharing it. |

A really crisp clean photo. Well focused and exposed with excellent detail. But, I don't like the fence in the background. That is my only complaint. |

This is pretty nice, but it could have been dramatically improved had you put a white or black poster board in the background. The wood fence does nothing for this picture. |

Nice shot....you should try to blurr or darken the background (fence) and compare to this shot to see if it would enhance the flower's features. |

The flower looks outstanding. Too bad this was not an advanced editing challenge, because you could have done someting with the distracting background. Good job. |

Beautiful shot, like the lighting. I think the shot may look a little better if the rose was in the middle of the fence post intersection. Love the subtle drips. |
