Thank you all for your comments. I recognized that the goose is out of focus and that its not dominating image enough. The "plan" was to have the fierce goose cover half or more of the image and that the DOF would be much shallower. When planning this shot i didn't take into account the fear factor and the fact that had to get so close with the selected lens. I had couple better images in that session but since this was closest to the idea i had, and i took the nasty tumble when taking this, i thought that it would be fitting to submit this one.
How could i have captured the focus better or is this just too ambitious of a plan? Or should the depth just be wide? Obviously next time i'll rather take the hit from the goose than the rocks. Or wear a helmet :) |

Hello from the critique club
An appealing image that meets the challenge well.
The composition is good with the goose obviously the main subject in a pleasing scene. What lets it down is that the focus point is actually behind the goose and given the challenge it is essential that it it should be in focus. I think you may well have had it in focus initially but in advancing towards you the focus has remained where it was, rendering the goose out of focus. Its a shame because this has probably impacted upon the end result but it remains an interesting entry, thanks Julius. |

| I tried to decide if I liked this or not. Liked won in the end. It's a weird wildlife picture but that's a positive as far as I'm concerned. It's quite an interesting photograph, without regard to the challenge topic, and the rascally duck or goose is just a lovely whacky inclusion that prevents it from being a static yawn-inducing landscape. So what all that amounts to is that I like all the things the picture isn't. Very much. Thank you. |
