Challenge: Macro Without Bugs or Flowers (Basic Editing I)
Camera: Canon EOS-300D Rebel
Location: Hamden, CT
Date: Nov 9, 2004
Aperture: f5.6
ISO: 1600
Shutter: 1/50
Date Uploaded: Nov 9, 2004

This was a last minute thing. I had been trying all week to find something that looked good but was disappointed by the ability of my two lenses (Sigmas 70-300 and 18-125) to get me close enough to the action. I had previously owned a Fuji S602Z that just about focused right at the edge of the glass! Finally, I asked my wife who was working on the laptop if I could take a few pictures of her eye. This was my first shot, naturally lit, handheld. I was surprised to see the reflection of our bedroom window in her eye. It was sharpened and desaturated in Photoshop.

What lens did you use with this shot?

Call me crazy, and you probably will, I thought the grain was something that made this shot special - and I still do. I'm sorry it rated so poorly, but glad I took and submitted it.

way way too grainy

I am asuming you wanted all the grain, and though I'm not a fan of the grain I give 6 based on meeting and execution of the challenge idea.

An eye with impact - works well in mono and with the noise - well done

I like this shot, though I can't tell whether I like the extreme (but artsy) grain, or a much sharper image. Certainly sets it apart from the other entries with this popular idea. Good reflection of the window in the eye.

Sometimes grain works, sometimes it doesn't. Unfortunately here it doesn't in my opinion.

Dramatic. I can see the reflection of the window in the pupil. Overall, the image seems a bit grainy/noisy and not as well focused as it could be. Nice effort.

Hehe, you can't beat oversharpening. :-D Good composition and nice choice of B&W. Slightly more interesting than other eye shots I've seen so far, well done.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to grainy and also looks out of focus. Not trying to offend you but this is just plainly an "ugly" photograph IMO. Only thing I like about it is the composition but that is it. 1
