Hello from the Critique Club:
First impressions:
Crikey! That's a big one! I wouldn't want to be the one to wrestle that one to the floor! - enough Stevo for the day. Honestly, this is a wowzer of a subject, I really like it. I want a pet snake, especially when I have an extra room to keep for him, and just him.
Technical stuff:
I agree with what GeneralE said, about moving back and giving us more of a feel for how large this python really is. It also seems to be under some huge yellow lights, which I don't think is his real colour? Unless it is, and you can slap me. The depth of field is superb, and you can see almost all the individual scales, which snakes tend to have. What is a bit iffy is around the actual eye and right behind it. I'm not sure if that's the glare from the light or the focus just isn't right but it doesn't feel right, maybe a little soft?
The background is the rest of the Python, which seems ok to me, and makes it obvious to me why these animals camouflage so well in the wild. The only other really nitpicky thing is the reflection in the eye, but well, you can't do anything about it because there's no spot editing in the challenges, so over all, you did very well in capturing this predator. (Well, I just learned about a term called "Catch Lighting" in portrait photography (thank you mr setzler) and I can see what you were doing now, and I think that is a preference which you are entitled to.) It is always hard to shoot an animal through glass, it helps when that said glass is clean, so bravo for that as well. The border suited the photograph, bravo!
Personally, I gave this photo high marks, as most everybody else did, and I enjoyed staring at it, so thank you for submitting it. Good luck in the coming challenges.

Very nice portrait, although it might have been more "cliche" to zoom out a little and catch the tongue in full extension.
I want to tweak the tones to make the head pop out a bit more from the background, but don't know if it really can be done. It has a kind of hazy look to me, like a bit of cyan cast in the shadows or something... |

How adorable ! Just glad you got a nice thick border to keep him in the pic. Nice duotones too. |

wow, what a lovely close-up, so much detail around the head area - that some of us would never get close up to see in real life, and the colours work well too. |

Cool!!!! Like the color, the focus is great - the texture of the snake's skin is great!! |

Great snake close-up. The color cast seems a bit too green/yellow, IMO. |

Cute? If you say so :P Great focus! Lighting seems a little weird and the photo seems more grey than it should be, but the eye is just so distinct. 7 |

awesome, is this guy venomous? This is a cool composition, kind of like the snake picture I did, but mine wasn't as good. 10 |

What a sweetheart! Very cute. I wish your border were a bit more delicate, though. It seems to overpower the fine details in this guy's skin. |

i'm biased: i don't trust snakes. otherwise, nice focus, it brings out the texture of the scales. |

Not my kind of loving, cuddly pet. But to each his own. I know a lot of people like them, including my grandson. Is this the natural color of him? I really don't like the color of the photo. Hope it's not his real color. Sorry if it is. But it is a very clear, well focused photo. Nice DOF. Don't particularly go for the frame work. Not my thing personally. But good photo. Well done. How did you get him to pose? What was your command? Having a little fun. |

Excellent macro shot. The texture, colour and composition is just awesome. We have a lot of unusual snakes where I come from, I'd be interested to know what this beauty is. Again an excellent shot. GL. |
