Hello from the critique club
An appealing image that contributes well to the challenge
True art indeed, this is a wonderful image. I like everything about it, its one of those lovely images that really stimulates the senses, the oddness of the reflected chair in such a landscape gives it an endless appeal. The grainy mono processing adds so much atmosphere it takes it all to another level. Its very pleasing to see all the positive comments but I wish I hadn't seen riot's critique before embarking on my own because I may very well have missed the halos but now I know they are there – you know what thats likeâ€Â¦ Other than this minor blemish I think you have an outstanding image, well perceived and executed. |

Excellent concept, startling. And well executed, good tones and use of grain. You have just the tiniest hint of sharpening halos along the horizontals of the chair, removing which would have brought it from a 9 to a 10 for me. One of my two favourites from this contest. |

Catchy, art like title and odd scene making it art worthy. |

I love the idea, I love the treatment, but there's something about the chair that feels wrong. I don't know if it's the type of chair (though I love the idea of a simple kitchen chair dragged out here), but its orientation in the frame just seems off. Needs to be rotated either square to the camera, looking in, or looking away. Looking out off the frame not so much. Might have made my top 5 otherwise.
(update)
Technically in my top 5 with ties, so I didn't whack you very hard for the chair. :) |

The B&W with the grain gives this a surreal feel for me. I like it. |

Everything works well here to make a mysterious and interesting story. |

This made me absolutely stop. I'm fascinated by this type of juxtaposition, and how elegantly the hand of man is felt in even the most remote and pristine places. |

Very thought provoking image especially when paired with the title. Well done on the composition and choice of b/w and grainy at that. I love this image and think it is one of the best for this challenge. |

The general absurdity of the chair in the water, to me, represents our folly in trying to control nature, and the grand joke that it represents to onlookers, perhaps the philosophical community. This notion is reinforced by the lo-fi quality and graininess, which adds mystery and lack of clarity to the setting. Have a seat and contemplate how nothing makes any sense, or difference. |

Yes. I can put myself there in that chair and breathe a bit. Perhaps nod off as if I have escaped the turmoil and waves. The hills shelter me from wifi and the daily whining and noise. I'm here. Fireproof. Relaxed. In a chair that has survived a generation and will survive another. Am I in heaven? Or am I just taking am introspective break from reality? How did I get here? I'm not really concerned with that right now. No reason to be concerned. Just reflecting.
So even though there is a bit of a contrived nature to the perfect composition and juxtaposed elements, it does have a purpose. And one I thank you for.
I'm pretty sure this magical composition will find friends here. |
