I don't have own kids and the cat of my girlfriend doesn't like my camera very much. So I decided to take a picture on the subject "flowers". But how to make it better than average ("the best photo I can")? I thought, that it could be helpful, to choose an unusual perspective and a special lighting. Because I never tried out the super macro function of my new camera, a macro shot suggested itself. The petal lies on a glass plate with a squared structure. I used 2 lamps for the lighting. The light of the first lamp is reflectet by a white sheet of paper through the glass plate to the subject (back light). The job of the 2nd lamp was to lighten the surface of the petal a little bit.

Hi Matthes

FIRST IMPRESSION:
nice tonal value

COMPOSITION:
nice enough. I am not too crazy about it looking like it's floating, other than that i sits nice on the frame and the background is very interesting. :)

TECHNICAL:
Your lighting works great on this shot. In fact, IMO, it's perfect. Your DOF sets i nice mood on the shot bringing the attention to the leaf without losing too much of the background. Nice job. :)

ARTISTIC:
I think this shot would have done much better in a different challenge. The interpretation I have of a flower cliche is a 'in your face' full color macro. I think you lost marks by making it sepia tone. BUT don't get me wrong, I think it's a great macro, just not for this challenge. :)

OVERALL:
I superb technically executed shot, that turned out very nice, but maybe just didn't fit in with the challenge.

Cheers and good luck in the future challenges. :)
