 Appaloosas, or in this case a pinto-loosa - as she seems to have large white irregular blotches which are not typical of Appies - have eyes that seem so human with the white sclera and mottled skin all around them. Maybe I'm just anthropomorphizing, but I see a wistfulness about her, as though she is thinking of other times.

Some of the best horses I've ever ridden were Appaloosas, like the mare I knew as RagDoll at the stable where I first learned to ride.

And some of the worst horses I ever rode were also Appaloosas! Crazy Pearl would try to kill you on the ground, you were only safe upon her back. And poor Powderkeg Kate, who jumped at her own shadow and once sent me flying with an almighty buck at a cross-country jump that she refused.

So anytime I see an Appy now, I always wonder if it's a Pearl or a Doll. Ahh, Appies...

Yeah, both riot and Sid the Kid are right...I truly and badly mucked up in cloning out a line of electric fencing that was in the way. That'll learn me to rush the pp on an already-11th hour entry, esp cloning out a horse with a tricky bunch of coat patterns like this Appy mare had.

Silly me, I was hoping that voters would 1) not notice the lines, or 2) think the lines were deliberate and/or a flaw in my lens or something...I personally didn't notice them until a day into voting and didn't want to self-dq. Maybe I'll try and fix it with healing instead of cloning.

Off to self-flagellate now...*sigh*

A very appealing image that contributes well to the challenge

What a lovely ‘ossâ€Â¦ That probably sounds disrespectful it’s not intended to but it sums up my knowledge of horses, I’ve never even heard of Appaloosas so thanks for broadening my edifercation. She’s a gorgeous looking gal portrayed to good advantage with your lovely image. I like your composition, this sort of stance with her looking sideways over her flank always works well. Unfortunately, I have to agree with Eugene, it does look like three lines of poorly executed cloning done from one side to the other, presumably removing an obstructive fence rail? If this is so, I’m very sorry but I have to reprimand you once again! It is to the serious detriment of an otherwise lovely horse portrait.

you have some odd lines running through the centre of the image there, where perhaps something has been cloned out carelessly?
